Eric Landsness is a neurologist, sleep medicine physician, and neuroscientist at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. His research focuses on how sleep and brain-state regulation influence recovery from neurological injury, with particular interests in stroke, neuroprotection, and mechanisms that promote brain resilience. He leads an NIH-funded laboratory investigating novel therapeutic strategies that harness sleep and synthetic torpor to improve outcomes after brain injury.

In parallel with his neuroscience research, Dr. Landsness serves as Assistant Executive Director of C-BRAIN (the Consortium for Biomedical Research and AI in Neurodegeneration), where he helps lead the development and evaluation of AI co-scientists for biomedical discovery. His work sits at the intersection of artificial intelligence and experimental science, combining domain expertise with emerging AI technologies to accelerate hypothesis generation, literature synthesis, experimental design, and scientific reasoning.

As both a practicing physician-scientist and AI researcher, Dr. Landsness is particularly interested in ensuring that advanced AI systems are grounded in rigorous biomedical knowledge and developed in close partnership with scientists to enable more reproducible, transparent, and impactful research.
