Randall J. Bateman, MD

Director, C-BRAIN

Randall J. Bateman, MD is the Charles F. and Joanne Knight Distinguished Professor of Neurology, Director of the Tracy Family SILQ Center, Director of the Dominantly Inherited Alzheimer’s Network Trials Unit (DIAN-TU), and Director of the Consortium for Biomedical Research & Artificial Intelligence in Neurodegeneration (C-BRAIN). Dr. Bateman began his scientific training in electrical engineering and computer science with a focus on AI before shifting his training and research to neuroscience and the pathophysiology, diagnostics, and treatments of Alzheimer’s disease.

Dr. Bateman’s lab discovered the first high-precision Alzheimer’s disease blood tests for amyloid plaques (Aβ42/40 and p-tau217) and tau tangles (MTBR-tau243). Results from DIAN-TU showed the first evidence of symptomatic Alzheimer’s disease prevention in participants treated with amyloid removal therapy. C-BRAIN, which was launched in July 2025, aims to improve fundamental biomedical research discoveries with artificial intelligence to accelerate breakthroughs in treating Alzheimer’s disease and neurodegenerative diseases. Its members and stakeholders include biomedical and AI scientists from academia and industry and philanthropic organizations.

Dr. Bateman has been awarded the Potamkin Prize and the CTAD Lifetime Achievement Award. He is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine and National Academy of Inventors.
